About the Samsung CC70*36

The Samsung CC70*36 is a 36 in. induction cooktop certified under the ENERGY STAR program for residential electric cooking products. It measures 36 in. wide and 21.3 in. deep, with a height of 4.25 in.

Induction zones use an electromagnetic field to heat the pan itself, so the glass stays cooler, heat responds almost instantly to the controls, and only magnetic cookware works. The cooking surface has 5 cooking zones, the most powerful rated at 4,300 W and the largest 11 in. across.

Listed features include touch controls.

Rated annual energy consumption for the cooking top is 195 kWh, about $33.15 a year at $0.17/kWh.

Safety information

  • This appliance requires a 240 V circuit (the certification record lists 30 A). Have the electrical connection made by a qualified electrician according to the installation instructions and local code. Never use an extension cord or adapter.
  • Never leave cooking unattended on high heat, and keep pot handles turned inward, away from the edge.
  • For a grease fire on the cooktop, turn off the zone and smother the flames with a lid or baking sheet. Never use water and never carry a burning pan.
  • Do not store flammable items, plastic utensils or aerosol cans on or above the cooking surface.
  • Wear close-fitting sleeves; loose clothing can catch fire on a hot element or pan.
  • People with pacemakers or other implanted medical devices should consult their physician and the device manufacturer about safe distances from induction zones.
  • Do not place metal utensils, lids, foil or cans on an active induction zone — they can heat up quickly.
  • Never use the glass top as a cutting board or storage shelf. If the glass is cracked, switch off the breaker and stop using the cooktop until it is repaired.

Installation and first-time setup

According to the certification data, this cooktop is 36 in. wide, 21.3 in. deep, and 4.25 in. tall (top to bottom of the unit). The countertop cutout is a different, smaller dimension — always cut to the template or cutout drawing in the installation instructions.

  1. Prepare the cutout

Cut the countertop opening to the template dimensions and verify the minimum clearances to the cabinet doors, drawers and any wall cabinets above as given in the installation instructions.

  2. Check the electrical supply

Provide a dedicated 240 V circuit using the breaker size and wire gauge the installation instructions specify (the certification record lists an amperage of 30 A for this model). New installations generally require a four-wire connection (two hots, neutral and a separate ground).

  3. Connect the cooktop

Route the flexible conduit to a junction box within reach of the cooktop and make the connection with the breaker off. Do not shorten or kink the factory conduit.

  4. Seat and secure

Lower the cooktop into the opening, center it, and fasten the hold-down clips or brackets so the glass sits flat without stress. Remove any protective film before first use.

Cooking zones on this model

Zone numbering follows the certification listing; check the cooktop markings for each zone's position.
ZoneDiameterPower
Zone 17.09 in. (18 cm)2,300 W
Zone 27.09 in. (18 cm)2,300 W
Zone 35.91 in. (15 cm)1,500 W
Zone 47.09 in. (18 cm)4,300 W
Zone 511 in. (28 cm)2,300 W

Match the pan to the zone: the base of the pan should cover the zone marking, or be no more than about 1 in. larger. Use the highest-wattage zone for boiling large pots and searing, and the smallest zones for sauces and simmering.

Cooking with induction

  • Use magnetic cookware: if a magnet sticks firmly to the bottom of the pan, it will work. Cast iron, enameled steel and most stainless steel are suitable; aluminum, copper and glass are not unless they have a magnetic base.
  • If a zone does not heat, check that the pan is magnetic, centered and large enough for the zone to detect it.
  • Heat arrives fast. Preheat oil and empty pans on medium rather than high, and never leave an empty pan on a high setting.
  • A light humming or buzzing at high settings and a cooling fan that keeps running after you switch off are normal.
  • Lift heavy pans rather than sliding them, to avoid scratching the glass.

Controls

This model uses touch controls. Keep the control area clean and dry — water, spills or a pan resting on the panel can make touch keys unresponsive or switch a zone off. Use the controls lock when cleaning and whenever children are around.

Care and maintenance

WhenWhat to do
After each use (once cool)Wipe the glass with a damp cloth. For residue, use a ceramic-cooktop cleaning cream and a non-scratch pad — never steel wool, abrasive powders or glass cleaner with ammonia on a warm surface.
As neededRemove burned-on deposits with a razor-blade scraper held at about a 30° angle, then polish with cooktop cream.
MonthlyClean the control knobs or touch panel with a soft cloth and mild detergent; dry thoroughly.

Troubleshooting

Many cooktop problems are caused by cookware, settings or the power supply. Try the checks below before scheduling service.

ProblemPossible causeWhat to try
Nothing worksBreaker tripped (240 V appliances use a double breaker); controls locked; power outage.Reset the breaker fully off and on; unlock the controls; check other appliances on the same panel.
Zone will not heat or a pan symbol flashesCookware not magnetic, too small or off-center.Test the pan with a magnet, use a pan that covers the zone marking, and center it.
Humming, buzzing or clickingNormal induction sound at high power, especially with multi-layer or lightweight pans; cooling fan.No action needed. Heavier, flat-bottomed pans are usually quieter.
Fan keeps running after switching offElectronics cooling down.Normal. The fan stops on its own.
Power drops when two zones are usedMany induction cooktops share power between paired zones.Check the manual for which zones are paired; move one pan to a different zone.
Touch controls do not respondWater or spills on the panel; controls lock on; pan resting on the controls.Dry the panel, remove objects, and turn off the lock.
A code appears on the displayThe control has detected a fault.Note the code, switch the breaker off for a minute, then on. If the code returns, look it up in the code table in your manufacturer's manual.

Energy use and running costs

The Samsung CC70*36 has a rated annual energy consumption of 195 kWh for its cooking top, measured under the U.S. Department of Energy test procedure. At $0.17 per kWh, that is about $33.15 per year, or $2.76 a month.

Low-power (standby) consumption — the energy used by displays and electronics when nothing is cooking — is listed as 7.81 kWh/yr for the cooking top, worth about $1.33 a year.

Induction transfers energy directly into the pan, so less heat escapes into the kitchen than with radiant or coil elements. Using lids, matching pan size to the zone and turning heat down once food reaches a boil all reduce consumption further.
