About the Sansui S32KAHT
Sansui model S32KAHT is a 32-inch class HD LED LCD TV that meets ENERGY STAR power requirements for its screen size. Its viewable diagonal is 31.5 in. (423 sq. in. of picture), with a native resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels.
The LCD panel is lit by a direct-lit LED backlight, so the backlight setting is the biggest single factor in both picture brightness and power use. Connectivity listed in the certification record includes HDMI inputs and USB.
Under the DOE test procedure the set draws 30.1 W while playing standard test content and is rated at 61 kWh per year, 41% below the ENERGY STAR on-mode limit of 51.5 W for a screen this size. Its annual energy use is lower than 81% of the 73 LED LCD models in our database.

Safety information
- Place the TV on a stand or furniture rated for its weight and size, or wall-mount it. A free-standing TV can tip forward if a child pulls on it — use the anti-tip strap or bracket supplied with the stand, or a commercial anti-tip kit anchored to the wall.
- Use only a VESA-compatible wall mount rated for at least the TV's weight, and fasten it into wall studs or masonry with the hardware the mount maker specifies. Drywall anchors alone are not adequate.
- Lift the TV by its frame or stand, not by the screen. Never press on the panel or lay it face-down on a hard surface.
- Keep the ventilation openings clear: leave at least 4 in. (10 cm) of space around the back and top, and do not install the TV in a closed cabinet without airflow.
- Do not expose the TV to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing water, and do not place liquid-filled objects on or above it.
- Unplug the TV during lightning storms or when it will be unused for a long period, and replace a damaged power cord before further use.
Setup
With a 31.5 in. viewable diagonal and HD resolution, a comfortable seating distance is roughly 5.5–8 ft (1.6–2.4 m). Sitting much closer than this tends to make the pixel structure visible at this resolution. Mount or position the screen so its center is close to eye level from your main seat.
- Unpack and inspect
Open the carton on a soft, clear floor area. Remove the accessories box, remote and power cord before lifting the TV out, and check the panel and frame for shipping damage.
- Attach the stand or wall mount
Attach the stand feet or pedestal with the supplied screws, or fit the wall-mount bracket to the VESA holes on the back. Check the VESA pattern and screw size in the manufacturer's manual before buying a mount.
- Choose a location
Avoid direct sunlight on the screen and keep the TV away from heating vents and fireplaces. For lowest glare, place it at a right angle to windows rather than opposite them.
- Connect your sources
Connect streaming boxes, game consoles and cable/satellite receivers to the HDMI inputs using certified high-speed cables. If an HDMI input is labeled ARC or eARC, reserve it for a soundbar or A/V receiver. For over-the-air channels, connect an antenna to the RF/antenna input and run the channel scan in the setup menu.
- Power on and run first-time setup
Plug the TV into a wall outlet or a surge protector and follow the on-screen setup. When asked, choose Home (not Store, Retail or Demo) mode — store mode runs the picture at or near maximum brightness and adds substantially to power use.
- Update the software
Connect to your network and install any available firmware update before you fine-tune picture settings; updates often fix HDMI compatibility and app issues.
Using your TV
Picture settings
Start from the default picture mode (often called Standard, Eco or Auto) — this is the mode in which the Sansui S32KAHT was tested for ENERGY STAR. "Vivid" and "Dynamic" modes look bright in a showroom but raise power draw and crush detail. For movies in a dim room, Cinema, Filmmaker or Calibrated modes give the most accurate color.
- Use the Backlight (or Brightness on some menus) control to set light output — it changes power draw almost proportionally. "Brightness" on many menus actually adjusts black level, not light output.
- Turn off motion smoothing (frame interpolation) for films if you notice the "soap-opera effect"; leave it on for sports if you prefer.
Standby and power-saving options
Measured standby power is 0.85 W, and 0.85 W with network standby active. Use the sleep timer or the "auto power off when no signal" setting so the TV does not run for hours after everyone has left the room.
Care and maintenance
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Every week | Dust the screen and frame with a dry, clean microfiber cloth. Wipe gently in one direction; do not press on the panel. |
| When smudged | Turn the TV off and let it cool. Lightly dampen (do not soak) a microfiber cloth with water and wipe; never spray liquid directly on the screen or use ammonia, alcohol or window cleaners. |
| Every 3 months | Vacuum or brush dust from the ventilation slots on the back and check that cables are seated and not under strain. |
| Every few months | Check for and install software updates, and restart the TV fully (unplug for 60 seconds) if apps become sluggish. |
| Before moving the TV | Remove the stand or mount, and transport the TV upright in its original carton if possible. |
Troubleshooting
Many TV problems are caused by a source device, cable or setting rather than the television itself. Try these checks first; for model-specific messages and error codes, consult the manufacturer's manual or support site.
| Problem | Possible cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| No power, standby light off | Loose power cord; tripped surge protector or outlet; internal power supply fault. | Reseat the cord at both ends, try a different outlet, and reset the surge protector. If there is still no standby light, contact service. |
| Power light on but no picture | Wrong input selected; source device off; faulty HDMI cable. | Press Input/Source and select the correct port; power-cycle the source; try another HDMI cable or port. |
| Black screen, flicker or "no signal" with a 4K source | Cable not rated for the bandwidth; HDCP handshake failure; enhanced HDMI format disabled. | Use a certified Premium/Ultra High Speed cable, enable the enhanced or deep-color HDMI setting for that port, and power-cycle the TV and source in that order. |
| Picture too dark | Energy-saving or automatic brightness feature active; low backlight setting. | Raise the backlight (OLED light) setting or reduce the energy-saving level. Note that this increases power use. |
| Remote does not respond | Weak batteries; obstruction in front of the sensor; Bluetooth remote unpaired. | Replace the batteries, clear the line of sight, and re-pair the remote following the manual's pairing procedure. |
| Sound out of sync with picture | Processing delay in a soundbar, receiver or wireless headphones. | Adjust the audio-delay (AV sync) setting on the TV or sound system; use eARC/ARC where available. |
| Apps slow or will not load | Weak Wi-Fi; outdated software; full app cache. | Move the router closer or add a mesh node, install updates, and restart the TV by unplugging it for a minute. |
Energy use and running costs
The Sansui S32KAHT is rated at 61 kWh per year. The DOE figure assumes about 5 hours of viewing per day with the TV in standby the remaining 19 hours. At an average electricity price of $0.17 per kWh, that comes to roughly $10.36 per year, or $0.86 per month.
| Daily viewing | Energy per year | Cost per year |
|---|---|---|
| 3 hours | 40 kWh | $6.72 |
| 5 hours | 61 kWh | $10.36 |
| 8 hours | 93 kWh | $15.81 |
| 12 hours | 136 kWh | $23.08 |
On-mode power is 41% below the ENERGY STAR limit of 51.5 W for its screen area.
Actual consumption depends heavily on picture settings. Raising the backlight from its default setting to maximum can increase on-mode power substantially. Store/Demo mode, HDR content and features such as Quick Start or networked standby also increase use.
